Two-time WSGA Senior Champion Carolyn Creekmore has a one-shot lead heading into the final round of the 2017 Senior Championship being played this week at the picturesque Cascades Course at The Homestead in Hot Springs, VA.
Creekmore, who hails from Dallas, TX posted a two-round total of 151 (77-74) in the 54-hole event which ends Thursday. Trailing by only one shot at 152 (77-75) is Camm Dougherty, who is from Corpus Christi, TX.
The trio of Lisa Schlesinger of Maryland, Tama Caldabaugh of Florida and Patty Moore of North Carolina are only 2 shots back of the lead at 153.
Thursday’s final round should be an exciting one with 8 players within 5 shots of the leader and all 14 championship flight players within 9 shots of Creekmore.
The duo of Sheila Haynes and Liz Scaggs are leading the 1st Flight with two-day total scores of 161. The 2nd Flight has the duo of Becky Neal and Cindy Gilkeson on top at 170.
Dianne Yelovich has a commanding lead in the 3rd Flight as she posted rounds of 76-79 (155) to lead Jo Ann Sluder by 7 shots. The 4th flight is paced by Mary Payne who shot back-to-back 90s for a 180 total. The duo of Trish Owens and Susan Stevens trails Payne by only one shot in the 4th flight. The twosome of Brenda McJunkin and Delores Hammer lead the 5th flight with scores of 196.
There are 4 former two-time Southern Senior Champions in the Championship Flight including the leader Creekmore (2014 and 2008), Patty Moore (2009 and 2000), Anna Schultz (2007 and 2006) and Taffy Brower (2012 and 2004).
