Entries are now closed for the 2018 Women’s Southern Golf Association Amateur and Mid-Amateur Championships which are scheduled June 4-8 at NorthRiver Yacht Club in Tuscaloosa, AL.
This year marks the 103rd playing of the Amateur and the 4th year of the Mid-Amateur Championship. Competitors are urged to get their entries in early as this tournament is expected to fill quickly, according to WSGA Tournament Chairman Susan West.
NorthRiver Yacht Club’s golf course is uniquely beautiful with numerous elevation changes. The course meanders through heavily wooded areas and rolling terrain and promises to provide a great challenge for players.
The field will be limited to 48 Amateur players and 48 in the Mid-Amateur event. The yardage in the Amateur will be approximately 6,200 yards with the Mid-Amateur yardage around 5,700.
Registration and practice rounds are set for Sunday, June 3. All competitors must register in person. You may call for practice round tee times beginning May 27.
Qualifying for both Championships will be 18 holes of stroke play with the first tee time at 8am on Monday, June 4. Match play gets underway Tuesday, June 5 with the finals in all events scheduled Friday, June 8.
The Annual Open Meeting is set for 6 pm Sunday, June 3 and will be followed by a Welcome Reception at 6:30. A Reception and presentation of awards will be held immediately following the conclusion of the Amateur Championship Flight Final Match on Friday, June 8.
The featured social event will be the Players Dinner, which is planned Tuesday, June 5 with cocktails at 6 and dinner at 6:30. This special dinner will feature Southern Cuisine in the dining room overlooking the 18th hole at picturesque NorthRiver.
Players should also note that lunch will be served on Monday and your entry fee includes your cart fee throughout the week. (If you make it to play Thursday and Friday you do not have to pay for your cart.)
Chairman West is excited to remind players that the USGA Women’s Open Championship is being held May 31-June 3 at Shoal Creek in Birmingham, which is an hour from NorthRiver. “This would be a great chance for ladies to come in early and enjoy watching some of the Open prior to competing in our Championships,” West added.
