Calynne Rosholt, 15, of Cedar Park, TX went wire-to-wire this week to capture the Women’s Southern Golf Association 103rd Amateur Championship which was held at NorthRiver Yacht Club in Tuscaloosa, AL.
Rosholt opened the week firing an impressive 66 in Monday’s qualifying round and capped it with a win over Sophie Burks of Euqality, AL in the championship match Friday. Roshult opened match play Tuesday with a 3&2 win over local junior player Caroline MacVicar and then defeated Geraldine Wang the second day. In Thursday morning’s quarterfinals she handled Anna Hack 5&4 and came back that afternoon to defeat Chloe Schiavone 2 up to earn her spot in the finals.
Burks, who plays at Middle Tennessee State and earned the #7 seed in qualifying, opened play with a 1-up win over Sarah May and then defeated Ally Williams Wednesday. Burks earned 2 close wins on Thursday knocking off Arin Eddy 1-up and then beating Delaney Shah 1-up in the semifinals.
The Championship Consolation match featured a pair of outstanding college golfers with Lauren Hartlage of the University of Louisville defeating Auburn’s Mychal O’Berry.
In her run to the Consolation title Hartlage lost to Arin Eddy in her opening match but then reeled off wins over Ole Miss’s Macy Holliday and Sofia Idoyaga and Lauren Waidner of Florida.
O’Berry opened with a loss to Anna Hack of Kentucky and then reeled off victories over Melany Chang, Caroline MacVicar and Sarah Harrison, who plays for Troy.
In the Amateur First Flight finals Brooke Matthews defeated Mary Kate Horton to claim that title. On the Consolation side of the First Flight Caroline Curtis defeated Hanna Burmann.
