Taffy
Brower shot a two over par 74 to become the first woman to win the
Southern Amateur and the Southern Senior Amateur in the same year.
Mrs. Brower recovered from an allergic reaction during the
second round and started the third round with ten straight pars to
regain the lead from second round leader Martha Lang.
The 11th hole brought a bogey for Brower as Lang
then double bogeyed both the 11th and 12th
holes while Brower
birdied the 12th to put Brower in the lead by five
strokes. Brower then
shot even par to finish while Lang finished with a score of 79 to
finish as runner-up in her first Southern Senior.
In
accepting the Southern Senior Trophy, Mrs. Brower expressed her
joy for winning the title. “You
cannot realize how happy this makes me and how honored I am to be
the Southern champion.” Mrs.
Brower had previously won the Southern Amateur in June at
Hardscrabble Country Club and is looking forward to defending both
titles next year.
Two

North Port, tied for third nine shots back.
In the Honors Division, Linda Wages, Nesbitt, Mississippi,
Pat McKamey, Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Lea Dudley, Foley, Alabama tied
